Overview
MyJDW Mobile is a rota and time management app built for pub teams.
It gives staff and managers a straightforward way to view shifts, request time off, track hours and respond to rota changes from their phone. It sits alongside the wider MyJDW platform, so the experience feels consistent and familiar.
The focus was clarity and reliability. This is a working tool used by busy pub teams. It needed to be simple and it needed to work.
The brief
I was asked to design a mobile rota and time management app built on top of the existing MyJDW platform.
The core functionality and required screens were already defined, along with a reference app that established the baseline structure.
My role was to translate that into a branded, usable mobile experience using MyJDW design patterns, within a tight turnaround.
The work focused on:
Applying JDW branding properly across the interface
Improving usability where it made sense
Replacing weekly rota paging with infinite scroll
Adding visibility of the full pub schedule
Designing clearer buttons, alerts and push notifications
Design work
The structure follows familiar rota management patterns so staff are not starting from scratch.
One of the main improvements was replacing weekly paging with infinite scroll. Staff often just want to scroll forward and see what is coming up. Removing paging reduces friction and feels more natural on mobile.
Managers can view the full pub rota within the same experience, reducing the need to switch systems.
Holiday requests and accrual balances were kept clear and functional:
Simple status labels
Straightforward request flow
Clear primary actions
Push notifications were introduced for rota updates, shift swaps and time off decisions. If something changes, the user is told. They should not have to keep checking.
Overall, the emphasis was on clarity, familiarity and removing friction from day to day shift management.
