Hello, my name is Ian Rotea.

I am a multi-disciplinary designer living and working in Northants (UK) with over 14 years of experience.

I have a wide range of skills including creative direction, visual design, user experience and a solid understanding of web development, paying attention to the smallest details. I was an advocate of web standards and accessibility and an early adopter of responsive web design having designed websites and apps for mobile devices, tablets and traditional desktop computers for a number of years.

Bio:

Since 2010 I have been working as Lead Designer for McCormack & Morrison, a London-based digital marketing agency. As the creative lead at the agency, I have planned and designed projects for brands including Yell, Travelodge, Virgin Active, Kazam Mobile, Crystal Palace FC, RAC, Vodafone, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Thistle Hotels.

Prior to this, from 2007 to 2010 I was Senior Web Designer at Evolving Media in Bedford (UK). Here I had the opportunity to work with well-known brands such as YO! Sushi, Carluccio’s, JD Wetherspoon, Beefeater and Crusha, to name a few. I designed the majority of the sites delivered by the agency, the highlight of which was being awarded a double Webby win for the YO! Sushi site, which I am especially proud of since I was responsible for all creative work on that project, from UX to concept designs and user interaction.

From 2002 to 2007 I worked as a Web Designer & Developer for the Brooke Weston Academy, a high-ranking secondary school with a commercial arm. Helping to design and develop online courses marketed to other schools in the UK, this was a particularly rewarding time in my career. I was given the freedom to really expand my design and coding skills: most of what I designed, I also built, both front-end and back-end. From sound editing to video editing and some animation using Flash and After Effects, designing the school logo, brochures, marketing materials and pop-up exhibition stands, I look back fondly on this period as the opportunity for me to become a solid “all-rounder" in this industry.

I started out as a freelancer in 2001 for a small web design studio called In House Media, where I designed small enterprise sites using hand-coded HTML, CSS and ASP and cemented my passion for design and code. Since then I have continued to pursue freelance projects in my spare time, as having my own client-base allows me to further develop my skills outside of the agency environment and has helped me become a better organised, multitasking professional.

When not working I spend my time with my wife and two children, and on a sunny day you can find me cruising around the winding roads of Northamptonshire on my motorcycle.
